Fayette County Jail Expansion and Criminal Justice Center

Location: Fayette County, GA

Owner: Fayette County Public Facilities Authority

Architect: Ingram Parris Group

Summary

Suggesting the look of a historical county courthouse, the Fayette County Criminal Justice Center features a semi-dome roof, stone fountains, and brick walkways outside and a classic central atrium inside. The 158,000 square-foot structure is positioned in front of a 128,000 square-foot jail facility. An underground tunnel connecting the two buildings and a central elevator system in the Justice Center ensure that inmates are securely transferred and never interact with the general public. The courthouse has six courtrooms on two floors with additional space on a third floor for future expansion. Interior finishes include Georgia marble and granite and glass handrails. The jail has nearly 400 beds and cells are concrete units that were pre-made off-site.
